Just because hijackings are down doesn't mean that TSA is actually working. Since 9/11 we've had a guy who got c4 into his shoe, another who lit his underwear on fire...

Do more research on Tim. Steve picks the target. Tim delivers the system.:apple:

    agreed.

The Verizon iPhone deal was all Tim Cook, even before Steve Jobs took his medical leave, it was reported that Steve Jobs had little involvement with that deal.

Don't forget! It took Intel 6 years to really surpass AMD on performance. The current AMD Athlon is no slouch either. If it was a choice between the Athlon 64 or a Pentium 4, like it was a year ago, many here would be jumping for joy over a switch to AMD.

The reality is ,though, that Apple seems pretty satisfied with Intel right now and I believe they made the right choice. If Apple does decide to use AMD processors then it would probably be for the iTV or the Mac Mini. These things won't be competing on raw power but on quality and price. An order I believe AMD can fill.

Any word on whether there'll be an update for iPhone 3G users? The highest version of iOS they can use currently is 4.2.1, which presumably has the location cache problems too?

Since the 3G is considered end of life, no. I also believe that the 3G doesn't have GPS, just used triangulation solely.

The Tea Party will be kicked out of office just as quickly as they were voted in. Hopefully a Democratic wave will come in 2012 and undo most of this crap.

perhaps true... but depends on how it works. if it's just tied to an email address, if they can encode that same email address into the files, it would probably work. Alternatively, it could also mean that someone could come out with a non-iTunes media player that doesn't validate against a server.
Maybe they should just work with Rockbox and make a third party firmware that opens up the iPod to a new open DRM and forget Fairplay compatibility...

(Note, like the Airport Express, the iTV may be an easier nut to crack than iPod+iTunes).

    iCal still looks terrible.

Much quicker update than the last one for me.

I think the realistic minimal RAM requirements will move to 4GB with Lion. Installing on an older MacBook with 2GB of RAM has proven that Lion loves RAM and Beachballs :) .

It is fairly stable for a "Beta/Preview" build though and seems to be closer to being ready to ship.

Hmm, no iTMS updates here in the UK as of yet. Hopefully that fact and also that the webcast is being broadcast in London as well suggests that the UK might get a piece of the action too :)

I hope that the Movie Store comes out today but I think that purchase-only will be a bad idea. There has to be the option to BUY and to RENT movies, otherwise I don't think it will succeed given the cheap price of DVDs these days. But having the ability to rent appeals to the impulse buyer who just wants something to watch that night, which is probably me - I would go looking for a new release movie that I want to rent to watch that evening, that's it.

The other thing that I'm desperately hoping for is cheap prices for older movies. If you go down to the video shop to rent a movie, new releases are £3.50, older releases £2.00 or less. I want to see the same think on the movie store. So if I feel the need to watch "Mrs Doubtfire" again one rainy afternoon, I can rent it instantly for a couple of pounds. Same with purchases - you can get 6-12 month old DVDs for £5 on Amazon.co.uk - iTunes needs to reduce the price of older movies to stay competitive.

I also hope that in some way it will be integrated with the iTunes Music Store - for one reason: I have loads of iTunes credit and I want to be able to spend it on movies too!

Fingers crossed for the event today. I'm hoping for some good stuff and some common sense from Apple.

Maybe I'm missing something, but doesn't the idea of a spoiler-free experience sort of run completely opposite to the purpose of this site? You sit around all year reading rumors and then don't want to be spoiled three hours before they post the keynote? Huh?

How does one go about buying stock? Never done it before, except in Economics class and I lost a bunch of fake stock. :p

I was thinking of buying a couple hundred bucks worth. Any advice? I just want to get my feet wet here and have some fun watching it go.

 I just refreshed before you said that and I saw that too. Ah, well. We don't know any details so the wait isn't completely lost.
Still, that's pretty annoying... I'd only uncovered one of those two out of my own stupidity...

The way I imagine Apple liscensing/opening up the iPod/iTunes/iTMS system would be for Apple to completely control what the user sees, how the user gets content, even if it doesn't control what the user gets. Like how you can choose which country to set the Music Store to, adding maybe an Amazon.com store to the list, Real.com, etc. But as a "reward" for opening itself up to competition, Apple would recieve a slight liscence fee, an teensy bit of the price of whatever's sold. This way Apple could control the look of the iTMS no matter where it comes from by supplying a template, a "user interface guideline" sort of thing for this new multi-store, and all media from Apple or Amazon or wherever could all happily coexist in iTunes. If the other companies want to sell to players other than the iPod, they can use their own system or work out a similar situation with Microsoft and fair play and such.

I don't really like leaving this in the hands of DVD Jon. Maybe Apple will wait and see what kind of response he gets and then take it from there, but I think Apple and especially iTunes still need to be part of the picture.

Maybe Apple could simply provide an easy "Add to Library" handle in iTunes, even if the stuff comes from some browser based store, you buy it and it goes to iTunes and thus the iPod. The whole multi-store thing is to me the ideal that I'd be willing to let go of.

i know the arguement against lte in the iphone for vzw, but i say why wouldnt they? they like to be on the cutting edge dont they?

Yes they do. BUT not when it means a crap ass experience for the customer. Because that just results in returns, complaints etc. LTE right now is only in a handful of major cities and not even perfect coverage there.

As for the whole "but android" argument, Apple doesn't do things just because everyone else does. Which is why we still don't have blu-ray in their computers despite every other computer (including even some so called netbooks) having had blu-ray drives for at least the last year. We also don't have Flash in the iphone etc despite every other smart phone having Flash and every other announced tablet saying it would.

Apple's success is in large part driven by the ecosystem that they have built around iPod/iTunes/iPhone/iPad. Good luck to anyone breaking into that anytime soon. The day I can buy a song on Mac/PC, synch it to my Android phone, then stream it around my home to HiFi or TV then we will have a competitor. Apple knows it, the record companies and studios know it, someone needs to tell Google.

What a shame. I really like Android OS but one of my biggest complaints by far is the lack of a solid service to sync and play music with my phone/tablet.

already exists - Amazon Cloud/Music Player
